Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Remly processes, why we process it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Remly diary app for Android and to this policy website.

Effective: October 26, 2026 Last updated: October 26, 2026 Applies to: Remly for Android Delete your data

1. Who we are

Remly ("Remly", "we", "us" or "our") develops and publishes the Remly diary app for Android. Remly is designed to help you write, remember and reflect on your daily life, with optional backup to your own Google Drive account.

For the purposes of applicable data protection laws, Remly is the controller of the personal information described in this policy, except where we act on behalf of a third-party service such as Google. You can contact us at support.remlyapp@gmail.com.

This policy does not apply to third-party services that you access through Remly, such as Google Drive, Google Play or Google AdMob. Those services have their own privacy policies.

2. Information you provide

Remly is built around content that you create. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:

  • Journal content — titles, text, quotes, dates, moods, tags, highlights and other details you add to an entry.
  • Media — photos, audio recordings, drawings, stickers and other files that you attach to an entry.
  • Places — a place name or location that you choose to attach to an entry. Location is optional and is only used when you add it.
  • Reminders — reminder labels, times and repeat schedules that you create for journaling or backup prompts.
  • Google account information — if you choose to use backup or restore, you sign in with Google. We receive basic account details such as your name, email address and profile identifier through Google Sign-In, and we use them to connect the app to your Google Drive and to authenticate your session.
  • Purchase information — if you buy a Remly Pro feature, the purchase is processed by Google Play. We may receive confirmation that a purchase is active and a purchase identifier. We do not receive or store your full card or payment details.
  • Support and feedback — information you include when you contact us, report a problem or send feedback.

You choose what to write and what to attach. Please do not include sensitive information about other people unless you have the right to do so.

3. Information collected automatically

When you use the app, certain technical information may be collected automatically by Remly or by our service providers:

  • Device and app information — device model, operating system and version, app version, language, region and general device settings.
  • Device or other identifiers — app instance and installation identifiers used for app functionality, analytics and diagnostics.
  • Usage information — app opens, screens viewed, feature interactions and similar events used to understand how the app is used and to improve it.
  • Diagnostic information — crash reports, error logs and related device state that help us diagnose and fix problems.
  • Advertising identifiers — where permitted by your device settings and applicable law, identifiers used by advertising services to deliver and measure ads.
  • Network information — limited technical data needed to operate online features, such as backup and ads.

This policy website

This website is a static information site. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics on it. Our hosting provider may process standard technical logs, such as IP address, browser type and requested pages, for security, reliability and abuse-prevention purposes.

4. Device permissions

Remly requests permissions only when they are needed for a feature you choose to use. You can deny or revoke permissions in your device settings at any time; some features may then be unavailable.

PermissionWhy it is used
Photos and mediaTo let you attach images, audio and other files to entries, and to import or export journal archives that you select.
CameraTo take a photo for an entry when you choose to use the camera.
MicrophoneTo record a voice note for an entry when you start a recording.
LocationTo add an optional place to an entry. Remly does not track your location in the background.
NotificationsTo show reminders and other notifications you have enabled.
InternetTo load ads, process purchases, and upload or download backups when you use those features.

5. How we use information

We use information for the following purposes:

  • To provide the core diary experience, including creating, editing and displaying your entries and media.
  • To provide optional backup and restore features through your own Google Drive account.
  • To schedule reminders and notifications that you request.
  • To process and manage Remly Pro purchases through Google Play.
  • To display ads and measure their performance, where applicable.
  • To understand how the app is used, diagnose crashes and improve performance, reliability and features.
  • To respond to support requests, feedback and legal requests.
  • To protect the app, our users and our legal rights, including detecting abuse and enforcing our Terms of Use.
  • To comply with applicable laws and Google Play requirements.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use the content of your journal entries to build advertising profiles.

7. Storage and backup

Your journal entries and media are primarily stored locally on your device in the app's private storage area. Unless you choose to back up, this content is not uploaded to a Remly-operated server.

If you enable backup, Remly creates an archive of your journal and uploads it to a private application folder in your own Google Drive account. The backup is associated with the Google account you signed in with. Remly can only access that application folder; we do not access other files in your Google Drive. Backups are transmitted over encrypted connections.

If you use import and export, the archive you create is saved to a location you choose using your device's file picker. You are responsible for protecting exported files.

For backup, we use Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication to authenticate your session and connect the app to your Google Drive. We do not receive your Google password.

Google processes data in accordance with its own terms and privacy policy. Google Drive, Google Sign-In, Firebase, Google Play and Google AdMob are services provided by Google.

8. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers — with Google, for authentication, backup storage, analytics, crash reporting, advertising and payment processing, as described in this policy. These providers process information under their own terms and, where required, data processing agreements.
  • Legal and safety — when we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process or enforceable request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Remly, our users or others.
  • Business changes — if Remly is involved in a merger, acquisition or transfer of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy and applicable law.
  • With your direction — when you ask us to share information or use a feature that inherently shares it, such as exporting a journal file.

Aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you may be used or shared for analytics, product improvement and reporting.

9. Advertising, analytics and crash reporting

Advertising

Remly may show ads through Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect device information, advertising identifiers, approximate location and ad interaction data to deliver, measure and improve ads. Where required by law, we ask for your consent before using personal data for personalized advertising. You can also limit ad personalization through your device settings and, where available, through the in-app privacy options.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand aggregate app usage, such as which features are used and how often. Analytics data helps us improve the app and is not used to identify you by name.

Crash reporting

We use Firebase Crashlytics to receive information about crashes and errors, including device state and diagnostic logs. This helps us find and fix problems. Crash reports are not intended to include the content of your journal entries.

10. Your choices and rights

You can control your information in the following ways:

  • Edit or delete individual entries, media and reminders in the app.
  • Turn notifications and reminders off in the app or in your device settings.
  • Manage camera, microphone, photo, location and notification permissions in your device settings.
  • Disconnect backup by signing out in the app and by revoking Remly's access in your Google Account permissions.
  • Limit ad personalization through your device's advertising settings and, where available, the in-app privacy options.
  • Delete a backup by removing Remly's hidden app data through your Google Drive settings, or by contacting us for assistance.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal information, to data portability, to withdraw consent, or to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, email support.remlyapp@gmail.com. We may need to verify your request before responding.

California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, correct and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. Some personalized advertising may be treated as "sharing" under the CPRA; you can opt out through the in-app privacy options where available, your device's advertising settings, or by contacting us. To make a request, contact us using the email above.

11. Data retention

Journal content and media remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Backups remain in your Google Drive account until you delete them or remove Remly's access and hidden app data.

Analytics and diagnostic data are retained by our service providers for the periods described in their policies and for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy. Support correspondence is retained for as long as needed to resolve your request and meet legal obligations. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed.

12. Deleting your data

You can delete your data at any time. Step-by-step instructions are also available on our dedicated Data Deletion page.

  1. In the app — delete entries, media and reminders individually, and sign out of backup if you no longer want Remly connected to Google.
  2. Your backup — open Google Drive settings on the web or in the Drive app, find Remly under connected or hidden app data, and delete its app data. You can also revoke Remly's access from your Google Account's third-party access page.
  3. Uninstall — uninstalling the app removes local app data from your device, subject to your device's backup settings.
  4. Request deletion — email support.remlyapp@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my data" and the Google email address you used with Remly. We will delete or anonymize information within the time required by applicable law, and will confirm when the request is complete.
Note: deleting the app does not automatically delete a backup stored in your Google Drive. Follow the backup steps above or contact us if you need help.

13. Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encrypted connections for online features, restricted access to systems, and reliance on Google's security infrastructure for authentication, backup and payments. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

You can help protect your data by keeping your device and Google account secure, using a screen lock, installing app updates and only downloading Remly from official sources. For more detail, see our Security Policy.

14. Children's privacy

Remly is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below these ages. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

15. International transfers

Our service providers, including Google, may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses and the providers' own transfer mechanisms. By using online features, you understand that your information may be processed in these locations subject to applicable safeguards.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, our practices or the law. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date and provide notice in the app or on this website where appropriate. Your continued use of Remly after an update means you accept the revised policy.
