Delete Your Data

You can delete your journal data, your Google Drive backup and your Remly connection at any time. This page explains how, including how to make a request without reinstalling the app.

Short on time? You can request deletion by email at support.remlyapp@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my Remly data". You do not need to reinstall the app.

1. Delete data in the app

Remly does not use a separate Remly username or password. Your journal is stored on your device and, if you enabled backup, in your own Google Drive account. You can delete it directly:

  1. Open Remly and delete the entries, media and reminders you no longer want.
  2. To disconnect backup, sign out of Google in the Backup & Restore screen.
  3. To remove local app data, uninstall Remly from your device.

Uninstalling removes local app data from your device, subject to any device-level backup or restore features you have enabled. It does not automatically delete a backup stored in Google Drive or cancel a Google Play subscription.

2. Delete your backup

A Remly backup is stored in a private application folder in your own Google Drive account. To remove it:

  1. Open Google Drive settings and find the section for connected apps or hidden app data.
  2. Select Remly.
  3. Choose the option to delete Remly's app data.

You can also review and revoke Remly's access from the third-party apps section of your Google Account. Revoking access stops future backup and restore until you sign in again, but it may not remove an existing backup; use the app data deletion option above to remove the backup itself.

3. Request deletion by email

If you cannot access the app or would like us to handle a deletion request, email us:

Email a deletion request

Please include the Google email address you used with Remly and state whether you want us to delete:

  • data associated with your Google sign-in for Remly;
  • support correspondence; and/or
  • analytics or diagnostic records that can reasonably be linked to you.

We may ask you to verify that you control the Google account before we act, to protect your data from unauthorized requests. We aim to respond within 30 days, or within the period required by applicable law.

4. What is deleted

Depending on the request and the data involved, deletion includes:

  • journal entries, media, reminders and other content stored in the app;
  • the Remly backup stored in your Google Drive app data folder, when you delete it as described above;
  • the authentication record associated with your Google sign-in for Remly, when we process an account deletion request;
  • support correspondence that is no longer needed; and
  • analytics or diagnostic records that can reasonably be linked to you, where deletion is feasible.

Deletion is permanent. Deleted entries cannot be recovered unless you have an independent backup or exported file.

5. What we may retain

We may retain limited information where required or permitted by law, for example records needed for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution or legal compliance. We may also retain aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer reasonably identify you. When retention is required, we limit the data to what is necessary and keep it only for the required period.

Google and other service providers may retain information under their own policies. We will request deletion from service providers where required and feasible.

6. Subscriptions

Deleting your Remly data or uninstalling the app does not cancel a Remly Pro subscription purchased through Google Play. To cancel, open Google Play, go to Payments & subscriptions, select your subscription and choose cancel. Refunds are handled by Google Play in accordance with its policies and applicable law.
